Guardiola has demonstrated that he won't start Phillips if he isn't up to par, but the preseason is an opportunity to test out new tactics and give the players a chance to put their training into action. It will be interesting to see whether Phillips is given another chance to launch his career at City after putting up promising performances alongside Kovacic and Rodri. It will also be interesting to watch if this summer has had a substantial impact on Phillips' growth in Guardiola's new-look midfield.
