News now: Man City receive Josko Gvardiol transfer deadline as RB Leipzig want record £86m deal concluded by start of Premier League season

• City are set to launch another bid in the hope of sealing a deal for Gvardiol
• The two clubs remain in          negotiations over the structure of record £86m transfer
• Leipzig want their squad settled  before the German Super Cup on August 12

By the beginning of the Premier League season, RB Leipzig wants to see an end to Manchester City's pursuit of Josko Gvardiol.

The Croatian international was a top target for City months ago, and the central defender is eager to move to the Etihad Stadium.

The format of a transaction that is anticipated to break a defense world record is still up for negotiation between the two teams, who played each other in the Champions League last season.

Leipzig wants £86 million, or € 100 million, for Gvardiol, but they are willing to set a deadline lest the deal drag on much longer.

Aymeric Laporte is still looking to leave, therefore City will make another bid in the hopes of securing a deal for a young player who would improve the left side of their defense.

The Bundesliga team, which is willing to let the 21-year-old go, is looking for a successor and has its sights set on Castello Lukeba of Lyon and Lutsharel Geertruida of Feyenoord.

Only Mateo Kovacic has been signed by City so far this summer, despite interest from outside parties in a number of other players, including Kyle Walker and Bernardo Silva, while Riyad Mahrez is about to be revealed as an Al-Ahli player for £30 million.

Walker's transfer to Bayern Munich fell through when both teams were in Tokyo, and the England international went to South Korea with City instead.

Marco Rose wants his team assembled before Leipzig's August 12 German Super Cup match against Bayern, which takes place the same weekend that City's Premier League season opener against Burnley.

Guardiola cautioned that despite Phil Foden's impressive performance during their preseason tour of Asia, City will not be at their best when the Community Shield rolls around a week from Sunday.

The academy graduate feels that by acting strategically behind Erling Haaland, a position that was always seen as his destiny, Foden may be able to reach his full potential.

Foden has spent the majority of his time at City thus far out on either flank; he is unsure if a central position will be permanent.

There's a lot more to my game in this role,' he remarked. "I'd be able to demonstrate my abilities to people much more." I would be more attentive and engaged. I believe that position carries a lot more responsibility.

Erling always has fantastic runs and excellent mobility. He desires early and behind feeding since the defense will always help him win the race.

It involves noticing those things when I'm inside. I haven't played there in a while, but when I play there more frequently, I will grow accustomed to it and begin to understand the job.

There are numerous defensive duties and numerous new things to master. I used to play there when I was younger, so if he wants me there, I believe I can fill that position. Simply said, I want to see how he portrays me.
