The most recent of the two games was played at the Japan National Stadium against Thomas Tuchel's team, and it garnered the greatest football crowd ever recorded there.

Although both teams had chances to level the score in the first half, Bayern's Mathys Tel scored from close range in the final 10 minutes to give Bayern the advantage. James McAtee had given Manchester City the lead.

The Premier League winners would still have time for a last-second winner, as Aymeric Laporte and Phil Foden combined to score City's second goal and give them a 1-2 triumph.
