Joao Cancelo of Manchester City is the target of Barcelona's current transfer efforts, Fabrizio Romano.
After spending the second half of last season on loan at Bayern Munich, the 29-year-old looks poised to leave the club this summer. However, Cancelo's future remained uncertain because the German champions were unwilling to buy him permanently. Despite this, Cancelo has played in preseason.
Cancelo may be the ideal replacement for Ousmane Dembele given that Barcelona is now expected to lose him in a shock transfer. Instead of another winger, it appears that Barcelona wants an attacking full-back to assist replace him.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that Barcelona's top priority is the versatile full-back from Portugal and that offers are on the way.
"Let me bring up one point. According to news now, Barcelona will spend some of the budget to sign a new right back.
"Xavi is looking for a new right back. Serginio Dest will not be a part of Barcelona's plans for the upcoming season, therefore Xavi shouldn't count on him.The top target continues to be Joao Cancelo. According to News now, Barca will attempt to utilize some of the funds in the coming weeks to make a bid for Joao Cancelo. After failing the first time, they now want to try again for Cancelo.
Should City sell Cancelo to Barcelona?
Cancelo was one of City's best players, and Pep Guardiola called him "fantastic," but a decline in form and some alleged off-field conflicts with his boss led to the defender's loan departure from City in January 2016, and it seemed as though his time at the club was finished.

If Kyle Walker leaves, there might be a justification for keeping Cancelo given that Bayern Munich has eyed him this summer. He is one of the best attacking full backs in Europe when at his best and is versatile enough to play farther up the field as well as on either flank.
However, if Barcelona is able to give a fair price, selling him might be the smartest course of action if Guardiola no longer relies on him. Rico Lewis can step in as an internal replacement, and with City successfully adjusting their system since Cancelo left and more centre-backs in the starting XI, he may not even be required if Walker departs.
Cancelo has four years left on his contract, but it doesn't look like he has a future at City, so selling him while he's still a valued asset seems like the best course of action.
