Owen Hargreaves described Pep Guardiola's qualities as a manager while lavishing praise on him.
"Pep is, in my opinion, the most creative coach we've ever had, pretty much in any sport. They were a little bit open and played this gorgeous football previously, which was perhaps their downfall before they won the Champions League. They were the superior team every time they lost, he claimed.
When asked why Pep Guardiola was not to blame for Manchester City's previous Champions League eliminations, Owen Hargreaves responded, "Whether it was Monaco, Tottenham, or Real Madrid, they were the better team. But at that level, a game of football lasts just one play. And I believe Pep used a back four last season to reduce those instances. By fielding four centre-backs instead of the full-backs, the coach reasoned, "Well, if I keep a clean sheet, I know we score." And what took place?"
"And I believe Pep is the best at coming up with in-game solutions and being creative, and you can almost certainly count on him to have a surprise for this season," the author continued.
It is tough to disagree with Owen Hargreaves and argue that Pep Guardiola is the best innovator in this regard because of the extraordinary ways in which he has impacted football as a whole.
