Victor Osimhen of the Super Eagles, in the opinion of former Togo and Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor, ought to be named the 2023 African Player of the Year. Napoli won the Italian championship for the first time in more than three decades thanks in large part to Osimhen, who scored 26 goals and contributed five assists.

According to reports, The Moroccan attacker from Sevilla, Youssef En-Nesyri, and Man City's Riyad Mahrez are among the favorites for the award thanks to the 24-year-old's outstanding performance from last season. Nwankwo Kanu, who received the honor in 1999, was the latest Nigerian to do so. Adebayor, who won the prize in 2008, claimed in a BBC Sport interview that Osimhen had the advantage due to his last season's performance.

It's really easy; after watching the season, I believe Osimhen deserves to be named the 2023 African Player of the Year due of what he has accomplished with Napoli, including scoring in all of Italy's major games and taking home the Scudetto.

"He has performed admirably; who is there to oppose Osimhen?" Sadio Mane was injured and had a challenging season, Mohamed Salah had one of his worst seasons in his career, and Zambo Anguissa is a Cameroonian player, but Osimhen is Napoli's standout player.

The former Real Madrid player declared that if you asked for my vote and I received 10, I would give Osimhen 12 votes for 2023 African Player of the Year. Osimhen also made history by being the first African player to win Serie A's coveted Capocannoniere award for top scoring. The Nigerian attacker is eagerly awaiting news regarding his future as he prepares to resume preseason training on July 19.
