Newsnow: Brighton reject Chelsea's £70m Caicedo bid

Brighton paid £4.5 million to acquire Moises Caicedo from Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle in 2021; the club now values the 21-year-old midfielder at almost £100 million. In January, Brighton turned down two offers from Arsenal, the largest of which was £70 million.

According to a source who spoke to Newznow Sports News, Brighton will try to collect over £100 million for Caicedo, who they acquired from Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle for £4.5 million in 2021. This puts Caicedo on par with Declan Rice, who was the record-breaking signing for Arsenal.

As negotiations between the two clubs for the midfielder continue, Chelsea is debating whether to make another offer. Chelsea will be "disciplined" and have interests in other players, according to what Newznow has been told.

If a deal can be reached between the teams, it is believed that the 21-year-old would join Chelsea, and personal terms are not anticipated to be an issue. In January, Chelsea was interested in signing the Ecuadorian international, while Arsenal had two offers turned down. After the winter transfer window shut, Caicedo decided to resign with Brighton.

Pochettino: Chelsea are diligently pursuing signings of new players.

Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea's manager, stated during the club's preseason tour of the United States that the team was hard at work bolstering itself in preparation for the Premier League season but would not be drawn on the club's rumored pursuit of Caicedo.

Pochettino stated, "We are still in the process of creating, finalising the squad, and we are working incredibly hard.

"Even though our team is fairly young, the guys are putting in great work and demonstrating their dedication. We are quite pleased with how they are performing.

However, we must work diligently during the preseason to assemble a genuinely strong team before changing the style we play. I want the right profile, the right players who improve the squad, he concluded. Of course, sooner is preferable to later, but we still need to put a lot of effort into achieving the goals we've set. It would be preferable if they arrived today rather than tomorrow, but we are aware that this is never easy.

Regarding the possibility that Chelsea's offer for Caicedo had been turned down, Pochettino added: "The whole team is working incredibly hard to accomplish what we want. I don't want to discuss individual names since our players are what matter. I won't mention any names because it would be insulting, but many clubs, like us, are trying to sign a player that can help their squad.
